Dr Avnesh Ratnanesan, MBChB, MBA (Hons) Founder & CEO
Dr Avi is the CEO of Energesse, a leading analytics and consulting firm specializing in improving patient experience and customer experience in healthcare. Dr Avi’s unique career began as a medical doctor in the UK and Australia, working across public and private sectors. After an MBA (Hons), he ventured into biotech and pharmaceuticals with responsibilities from researching high-profile medicines such as ‘Viagra’, to Chief of Staff and advisor to the CEO of industry leader Pfizer Australia. He helped manage products worth over $100mil a year and strategically grow the overall organization to over a $1 billion a year in revenue. Prior to Energesse, Dr Avi successfully founded 2 other companies in digital technology.
With over 20 years experience in healthcare, Dr Avi and his team help organisations, businesses and governments solve their challenges, innovate and realign their products, services and organisations to be more patient or customer centered. His established track record as a thought leader has resulted in improved health outcomes and financial results for organisations. He has authored research White Papers on the Future of Healthcare and the Health Insurance industry, one of which was presented to the Prime Minister’s advisors.
Dr Avi is regularly featured in the media and a high rated international keynote speaker. He has presented his views at conferences in World Congress of Prevention & Wellness, Future of Medicare Conference, Future of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme Summit , Health Insurance Summit and the Healthcare Analytics Summit. Dr Avi is a Council member of the Australian Hospital and Healthcare Association (AHHA) and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Paul Howarth, Analyst
Paul is a stakeholder engagement expert, particularly in the healthcare sector. His questioning techniques solicit rich qualitative feedback that is processed using the PanSensic software, an innovative technology for analysing patient, employee and/or consumer behaviour. These cutting-edge insights are used to inform strategy, design or redesign systems, communications and resolve complex organisational or societal problems. Paul’s work has been utilised in complex systems such as the National Health Service in the UK.
Paul is a serial entrepreneur, having started and sold successful businesses in agriculture, manufacturing and the service sector. Paul has extensive hands on experience in many aspects of business management and has a post graduate Diploma in Advanced Agricultural Business Management.
In 2004 Paul founded Akumen with Myke Challacombe, together they designed and coded 9 bespoke business software applications for clients including; ERP, Process Management, 8D Problem Solving, Document Control, CRM and Strategic Planning Software. More recently the focus has been on Akumen’s PanSensic web based Qualitative Data Analysis software.
Darrell Mann, Advisory Board
Darrell is an engineer by background, having spent 15 years working at Rolls-Royce in various R&D related positions, ultimately becoming Chief Engineer responsible for the company’s long term future military engine strategy. He left the company in 1996 to first help set up a high technology company before entering a programme of systematic innovation research at the University of Bath. He continues actively use and develop the Systematic Innovation methodology, with the help of 30 full-time research staff. With over 600 systematic innovation-related papers and articles to his name, plus the best-selling ‘Hands-On Systematic Innovation’ books, Darrell is now one of the most widely published authors on the innovation subject in the world. He is CEO of Systematic Innovation Ltd, a UK based innovation company with offices and affiliates in India, Malaysia, Korea, China, Japan, Denmark, Turkey, Russia, Australia, US and Austria.
For the last 15 years he has helped many of the world’s top companies to create stronger IP, participating in the creation of over 400 inventions. Projects he has been involved in have resulted in the creation of several billion dollars of new value to clients.
Rob Antulov, Advisory Board
Rob is an experienced corporate advisor in the technology, media and telco sectors. He has extensive experience in traditional and digital media, social media, technology and FMCG sectors, as an executive, entrepreneur, consultant and corporate advisor. He is passionate about growing businesses and helping the people who do just that.
Currently, he provides corporate advisory services with Venture Advisory. Previously, he was the Director of Strategy at Fairfax Media where he was responsible for corporate strategy, M&A activities and strategic planning. Earlier, he was a senior executive with Peakhour, a VC-funded technology start-up, a senior marketing executive with Coca-Cola and a consultant with Booz & Co.
Olivia de Guzman, Operations Manager
Olivia is highly experienced in the health and wellness industry having helped a health and wellness institute with their marketing efforts and community activities in Diabetes Awareness. In addition, she has provided senior administrative support to government and international companies for over 10 years. Her background also includes working for a large software development company dedicated to providing high quality educational materials for the maritime industry.
Olivia’s diverse skill set also includes serving as a marketing manager for an international school where she extensively utilised her skills in customer service and communications. In her spare time, Olivia expands her personal wellness by enjoying off-roading, camping and being close to nature.
Matthew Tice, Chief Executive Officer of Insurgence
Mr. Matthew Tice is the Chief Executive Officer of Insurgence, a firm dedicated to helping organisations to navigate (and lead) through disruptive change. Insurgence helps clients at the nexus of strategy, innovation and leadership to accelerate growth by discovering new paths to market and building disruptive business models. In his previous role, Matt was Managing Director and founding Partner for Asia-Pacific at The Palladium Group. Mr. Tice is a leading advisor to CEOs across Asia-Pacific in the areas of strategy design and execution, leadership, innovation and governance. He has worked as a senior advisor with many of the region’s leading organisations including BHP Billiton, Toyota, Pfizer, Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi, Canon, Telstra, Merck, BaoSteel, Maybank, the central Banks of Malaysia and Indonesia, and several emerging market National Governments. Mr. Tice has experience working with clients on six continents.
Simon Kimber, Senior Project Manager
Simon joined MES in August 2011, and was promoted to Senior Project Manager in 2016. His background in Parliament, coupled with a keen interest in politics and democratic processes, means Simon is able to offer great insight and advice to his clients.
Simon currently leads on our patient experience work, helping to develop a ground-breaking patient experience tool (MES Experience) for the health sector that is now used in both the UK and Australia.
As part of the MES Delivery team, Simon regularly works with surveys and data analysis, advises on governance structures, and oversees the implementation of the MES Experience system.
Before MES, Simon was a Senior Researcher to a Member of Parliament, and whilst there wrote a series of successful amendments to the Electoral Administration Bill. Simon studied for a degree in British Politics and Legislative Studies at the University of Hull, and holds a Masters degree in International Security and Global Governance from the University of London.
Nick Goodman, MES Managing Director | ERS Director
Nick started his career in the world of democracy and civic engagement in 1994 when he joined MES’s parent company, Electoral Reform Services (ERS).
After a decade immersed in the management, advice and guidance of elections and voting consultancy, Nick started to look at broader membership services as an area he felt he could help clients with. He set MES up in the spring of 2006.
MES specialises in communications and research with a unique focus on participation and involvement.
Since 2003, Nick has been closely involved with the health sector, co-authoring the NHS Foundation Trust legislation with the Department of Health, and creating the Foundation Trust sector for ERS. In 2011 he initiated and co-authored a joint piece of research with Monitor, the Foundation Trust regulator, analysing the sector’s member and governor engagement to date. In 2016 he had a number of articles published in the HSJ and the Guardian Health Network.
He has a BA (Hons) degree in Government and Public Policy from Newcastle. Outside of work, Nick can often be found in the company of his family and friends, and the mighty Bruce Springsteen. He enjoys cinema, current affairs, music, coffee and lovely food.
Ashok Rudy, Director, Malaysia
Ashok Rudy is the Director of Energesse Malaysia and he is leading the expansion of Energesse operations into the Asian Region with 15 years experience in marketing and customer experience knowledge in the region. He graduated in law from the UK in 1997 but delved into the communications industry upon his return. He was mesmerised by the dynamism and creativity involved in the trade and saw abundance of opportunity.
He later did his Masters in Marketing with Curtin University, Australia while working as a marketing consultant. Being meticulous and committed, he rose the ranks quickly in the local and multinational companies he was attached to and has an intimate working relationship with huge corporate brands such as Maxis, Shell, Nike, Maybank, Tesco, Hugo Boss, Lipton, Cornetto to name a few. Ashok Rudy is the founding partner of Acquire Sdn Bhd, a 15 year old, Malaysian based marketing consultancy firm. While at Acquire Ashok has managed to build the consultancy division to advise leading players in education, property, hospitality and technology with businesses worth over RM 100 million.
Ashok is a Chartered Marketer awarded by the Chartered Institute of Marketing UK and a Council Member of Institute Of Marketing Malaysia, the largest marketing body in Malaysia. He speaks at various marketing engagements and coaches entrepreneurs and innovators on marketing and sales.
Kiran Nair, Research Consultant
Kiran is a Market Research Consultant with over 12 years of strong qualitative and ‘industry-scanning’ experience, delivering projects for a diverse range of clients in over 12 industry sectors. This includes New Zealand’s tertiary education, health and government sectors, Hong Kong’s commercial and start-up sectors, Malaysia’s marketing, media, F&B, FMCG and start-up sectors and Australia’s healthcare sector.
Kiran’s health sector engagements have included a high-level secondary and primary research projects for New Zealand’s Ministry of Health, reviewing healthcare service centres. At the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology, where she established the market research office, she conducted environmental scans, surveys and focus group projects for the Health & Sciences department. She relishes opportunities to work with high-level clients through to the ‘coalface’ of market research – comprising key health industry leaders, the health and disability community, hospital directors, doctors, health and sciences students and teachers through to healthcare service centers. Kiran’s work has driven strategic and operational planning, new initiatives, special projects, marketing resource allocation, grant applications, and business case development for new products and services.
